Google Business Profile Photos: How Many, Which Ones, How Often
Updated on 3 September 2026
A minimum of 10 to 15 photos covering storefront, dining room, dishes, and team gives your listing a solid base. Beyond the starting quantity, what matters most is the regularity of new additions: a listing that gets new photos every month reads as more active than a frozen one, even with the same total photo count.
Photo categories to cover
| Category | Why |
|---|---|
| Storefront / entrance | Helps customers recognize the business on arrival |
| Dining room / atmosphere | Helps people picture themselves there before booking |
| Dishes | The most-viewed category — directly tied to the decision |
| Team | Reinforces the human dimension, useful for trust |
| Menu (photo or document) | Reduces questions and uncertainty before the visit |
Minimum photo count
10 to 15 photos covering all the categories above is a solid baseline. There's no demonstrated benefit to going well beyond that number all at once — regularity matters more than initial volume.
How often to add new photos
One to two photos per month is enough to maintain a freshness signal, particularly seasonal dishes or new items. This pace is consistent with what's recommended for Google Posts — see Google Posts: do they actually work?.
Who can add photos
Any customer can add photos to your listing without your approval. That's why it's useful to proactively populate the listing with quality photos yourself — they display ahead of lower-quality customer contributions and set the visual tone of the listing.
Should you remove low-quality photos
You can flag an inappropriate or irrelevant photo to Google for removal, but Google reviews these requests case by case and doesn't systematically grant them. The more reliable strategy is to populate the listing with enough good-quality photos that mediocre contributions go unnoticed.
